A poem I had written a few years ago.
Finally I had surfaced
Able to breathe
To hold my head high

Then it came
A strike across the face
Earth meeting body
Forced back below the surface

Stealing my breath
Darkening my hope
You doomed me

Took my resolve
Replaced by uncertainty
Thrown to the wolves
A betrayal of the mind

The darkness fades to black
Lungs burning for air
Mind screaming for peace

Now I lay still
Fight all gone
Caving to this destiny
I drown again
