Monologues are long utterances that keep others from participating in the conversation.
Monologues are also speeches that one makes to oneself. In theater, a monologue might be an unusually long, dramatic oratory, lecture, or delivery given by a single actor. Typically it's a dramatic address intended to give the illusion of unspoken thoughts and reflections. For me, monologues are just an excuse to bloviate about whatever came to mind at one time or another.
