The Dangers of Love

Public Announcements are to warn people to guard against pain from impending danger/risk, right? Like, back in the day, when that ear-splitting beep would sound on public TV stations? Why not a Public Announcement for the risks of the pain one can suffer from love? It seems irresponsible not to have one, and, what is worse is that NO ONE ELSE is outraged by this social neglect.

No one is warned of the dangers of love! Rather in a folie en masse (mass madness), instead it is embraced as the crown of life and embedded deeply into all cultures. Mass masochism, is what this madness is, people line up to be the next victims of this take-no-survivors tidal wave called LOVE. All truth-tellers about this shameless stalker of human hearts are chalked up to trash-can-labels of “bitter” or “love scorned.” But, stuck with the label or not, isn’t everyone a little bitter or love scorned?
Consider:

Love breeds sympathy pains- when the loved one suffers pain so does the lover

Love lost can interfere with everything else in a person’s life (work, education, friends, family, sleep patterns, hobbies, religious faith, future relationships…)

Fights both physical and verbal occur as a result of love’s inspiration Friendships are broken because of attention lost to a friend in a relationship or because of jealousy over that relationship

Forbidden love can get people disowned from a family (or, heaven forbid, end up like Romeo & Juliet)

Not “finding” love can get someone labeled a spinster (mostly women—apparently love is sexist, too)

Love costs money—anniversaries, birthdays, holidays (especially Valentine’s day), and if marriage comes, the wedding can be horrendously expensive

In the U.S., about half of marriages end in divorce.

People divorced, especially men, who do not find another “mate” fairly quickly, die sooner (it turns out love isn’t sexist- it cuts both ways)

Crimes of passion, up to and including murder, with claims of love at the center. .. Since when does anything justify crime?

Last but not least, ever heard of dying from a broken heart? DEATH, this number is talking about death. Is that not the ultimate consequence a person should get at least a heads-up about?

There does not seem to be an opt-out-of-love form, but would anyone fill it out if there was? Maybe if people were more aware of love’s dangers, such a form would gather success. There has to be a beginning to end this madness. Shouldn’t there at least be a petition going for that Public Warning? If there is already a petition going, does anyone have a pen? Because, well, love hurts.
