A poem about the important role of a mother
Who taught me to live a cherished life
and nurtured me till I grew up?
Who taught my lips never to tell a lie?
No one but Dear Mother

Who taught me to believe in myself
and cheered me when I was distressed?
Who taught me my right from my left?
No one but Dear Mother

Who taught my eyes to read God’s word
and fed my toothless mouth with milk?
Who taught my hands to give out love?
No one but Dear Mother

Who taught me to keep a sound mind
and warned me against bad company?
Who traded her comfort to ensure mine?
No one but Dear Mother

Who taught my ears to heed advice
and helped my frightened feet to stand?
Who taught me to reach for the prize?
No one but Dear Mother

All the knowledge that resides in me
I learnt them at my mother’s knee
Before I rest, my last words shall be:
‘No one like you, Dear Mother’
