40k head cannon about the nature of Chaos and the warp deity Nurgle
The empirical world is one characterised by fixed boundaries and static forms. It is an expression of the mortal fear of death. Human beings cling desperately to the illusion of permanence and fruitlessly struggle to prevent their own dissolution. No matter how long an empire endures, or how immortal its works may seem, with time the old order is replaced by the new. Eventually nothing will remain of the old. Nothing is permanent, all things ultimately succumb to decay. Chaos is the true order of the (material and immaterial) universe. All things are subject to change. All are processes moving through time with no fixed reality. The student of the Warp is acutely aware of and embraces this reality.

Grandfather Nurgle shows us the error clinging so desperately to the illusion permanence and removes from us the fear of death. He is the embodiment of transience. His form invokes our inner most fears of disease and decay. He reveals the inevitability of our own dissolution, but in doing so shows us the folly of fear. Nurgle reveals that even immortality is not a fixed state but an ever shifting steam of life wherein the death of one body dissolves to sustain the bodies of countless others. Death in Nurgle’s embrace is not lifelessness but teaming with life. Life and decay are one and the same reality. One can not exit without the other. From this material reality the student comes to understand that likewise the soul is not a fixed entity but subject to change and even death. Even the Warp entities themselves have no fixed forms but are constantly in motion and ever changing storms of infinite potential.
