Fred is a research scientist in National Biological Research Institute. He is pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars in government research grants and he is the envy of a lot of people, including his colleagues. His haughty and screw-you attitude does not win him too friends. If he wasn't that brilliant a scientist he would have been fired a long time ago.

Then one day Fred falls into a deep coma... he can HEAR everything around him but cannot respond. He is hooked up to an artificial heart-lung machine that keeps his internal organs going. His brain is wide awake but he can't show any response even when a pin is stuck into his arm.

He would bleed but cannot make any sound at all. His girlfriend visits him at his bedside and start to make out with her boyfriend -- a man Fred thought was his student all along. Not only they are necking in front of him but they are also whispering a conspiracy to siphon off Fred's sizable savings and kill his only heir, his lovely daughter Megan.

Fred is a nasty SOB but he certainly is no criminal and did not deserve the plot that his girlfriend and her lover are plotting. There is only one person to stop them -- a girl who had a stomach operation and is staying on the same floor. as Fred. When all visitors leave and lights are turned down after midnight, she visits Fred with her wheelchair and talk to him through a system of grunts and gestures that she developed. Fred can only wink once or twice for yes or no. Through such limited communication they decide to stop the plotting lovers...
