Vanilla Skies

Underneath vanilla skies
With cappuccino dreams
Solemn truths, flecked through with lies
Shot through with flavoured schemes

Visions we’re not sure would stand
The cold hard light of day
Notions that we strangle, strand
From oceans where we play

Locked behind a lattes froth
‘neath sprinkled camouflage
We settle for a smaller lot,
… we should be going large

But when the riptide pulls us down
When fight or flight takes hold
It’s easier to take it, drown
It’s easier to fold

Especially when we draw lots
Short straws that life denies
Dreaming of vanilla shots
In cappuccino skies
