The scars lie all around me
In life’s plaster they are scored
The times refused rides offered
Times I’ve ventured out, explored
Claw marks born from passion
Talons formed in wrath
Paw prints painting where I’ve been
Whilst wings they beat a path
A path of yellow cobbles
With things lost in the cracks
Some things rightly buried
Some missing, sorely lacked
Still life paints it over
The cracks, the talons, claws
The tides of time wash over
Our pride, our envy, flaws
Lest they be remembered
A harvest midst clawed scores
Seeds of passion planted
In the fields, furrows bored
Or the things that we abandoned
The ones we left behind
In the cracks within life’s canvas
Too often we can find
That when scabs mend, scar over
It’s too easy to pick
To peel life’s bandage asunder
Dwell in the wounds that we lick
Scar tissue marked with memories
Etched canyons of vagabond hearts
Inked chasms where our truths lie,
and our lies... they play their part
