Thoughts on the death of a friend
You are gone

You are gone.
From my vision, but not my life.
From my daily routine, but not my thoughts.
From my conversations, but not my quiet moments.
You will always occupy a part of me.
A part of me no one else can see.
A part of me that treasures your memory,
I will not let you go as if you were of no value.
For you were an important part of my being,
More so now, I am seeing.
True, your memory haunts me,
The reality of your absence pains me deeply,
Yet there are moments to savour still,
Cherished moments mixed in with the hurt.
You came my way for a purpose,
Our meeting was not in vain.
To make a true friend is to risk loss
And love’s last gift is remembrance,
A mixture of joy and pain.
One thing I know, you were special to me,
From your memory I will never be free,
Nor do I want to be.
