Monster's Away

That monster I hide
so very deep inside
rattles its cage
trying to take the stage.

It whispers in my ear
that I have nothing to fear
if it should get out
and run all about.

It takes all I've got,
and that's quite a lot,
to keep this thing caged
when it becomes enraged.

If it should get loose
down will come the noose
to destroy all
in a perilous fall.

I force it in a box
and check all the locks
to keep it away
where it should stay.
