and with the letter P

My poem’s lost its P
and it’s not behind the O.
I asked the E if he’d
seen him,
but E didn’t know.

My poem’s lost it’s P
and the M, well he’s a mess.
He said if I try
I just might pry
his location from the S.

I pleaded with S,
“ There’s no P-O-E-M without a P.”
He looked at me
and simply said, “ What’s that got to do with me? "
I just follow apostrophe.”

I felt sorry for the S.
Sometimes he’s important too.
But the P
is always present.
What was I to do?

Just as I had given up
The  P  returned quite seared,
He’d been pressured, poked and prodded.
It was just as I had feared.

And so I placed the P
Into his proper place,
assuring him from this day forth
plenty of personal space.
