A poem about unrequited love.
Fitting into the curve of your soft body,
I watch the heave of your chest
as you breathe in and out.
I wonder what you are thinking.

Eventualities? Possibilities?
Future stolen moments?
I wonder if you think of me,
like I think of you.

I hold you, like I never want
to let you go.
But I will.

Will you know me someday?
Will you know how I ache
for this connection?
Will you someday say to me,
“I don’t want to let you go”,
and hold me through the night?

You are looking at me
with a face that says
a thousand things at once.
I lay my hand on your chest,
feel your breath on my face.

How sweetly you could say
what my heart wants.
Words could easily pass your lips
that would undo me in this moment.

You turn, press in on me,
wrapping me in your arms,
bringing me closer still.
I say your name,
and you kiss me,
then softly close your eyes.
