I am an island
behind sand castle walls.
How did they get here?
They’re not very tall.
On the outside is a shallow moat.
A lonely pool, sunken treasure below.
What’s at the bottom?
I do not know.
I reach into the pool
and recover the chest,
fling open the lid,
feeling that would be best.
I look down inside
What do I see?
A little red shovel!
How could this be?
I start knocking down walls
one, two and three.
Is it really that easy
for me to be free?
No longer an island
I have broken free.
No longer a prisoner
of a younger me.
Looking beyond
as far as the eye can see
is an endless ocean
of possibility.
