Time was running out and everything was at stake.
Time was running out. How on earth would she ever complete her task? My God, this was life or death. She was cutting it close this time, a little too close. She found herself baffled and unaware of what to do next. Her belongings strewn across the table, a few scattered on the floor. Why was she so flustered this time? What was it about this client that made her so nervous? She’d done this a thousand times.

“Breathe.”

The wrong amount of any one thing and the whole thing would blow. The wrong temperature and it would explode prematurely.

“Careful.”

Not only was her livelihood at stake but her life. This was a dangerous business to be in, but she was so damn good at it how could she not? She couldn’t afford to screw it up the first time around and create a new one. Time was ticking. One hour and four minutes remaining.

“Pace yourself.”

Her partner rushed through the door. Dammit, where have you been? I had to get the rest of the parts.

“You can’t make it without me,” he chuckled as he laid the eggs on the table. “It’s just a birthday cake. Relax.”
