Funny Bone The second night in the hospital was worse. How could that be? Worse than the first. First clue; cute nurse with no wristband. Second clue; the toe tag she held in her hand. The nurse was sweet. She was spry. The Doc EKG; extremely kind guy. But that’s not all... not all he could be. “Its only tonsils” I heard them say; “He doesn't need’em anyway.” At least that's what they said the first night of my stay. The second night I heard Doc moan; “OMG! He can’t breathe on his own!” “Yes I can!” I tried to scream! To the hot little nurse with the cold ice cream. The doctor ordered an EKG. Yes doc I know, you're an extremely kind guy But please, please, look into my eye. Do no harm. DO NOT let me die! “I need to put this onto your chest.” “Have nurse do it” I slurred; “She is the best!” The drugs were talking and they said the rest. By the end of the shift, the clock had struck one... but I knew in my heart that this Doc was not done. And even though he was an extremely kind guy He never caught the fear in my eye. The nurse knew my heart, she knew I could breathe. She knew it could pound, she knew I could bleed. So off to work the doc did go; an EKG with too much to know. A sharp saw in his hand, the wrong tag on my toe. Off, off, to work he did go. I should have seen it. I should have known; that the second night they’d send me below with two less tonsils and no funny bone.
