An inventor has an idea he thinks might change the world

A WASTE OF TIME

It was the year twenty-four seventeen, nine years after the last Great War, World War Seven. The few citizens that were left of Planet Earth were still trying to rebuild civilization, but not having much luck. All of the historical documents had been wiped out in The Great War, so they had nothing to serve as blue prints.

And to top it all off, these weren’t the smartest ones the human race had to offer. Before The Great War, they’d lived in small huts in the deep jungles of the Amazon, and had no contact with the outside world.

Now, after The Great War, nothing had changed for them, but they knew the apocalypse had happened because most of their jungle had died away from acid rain.

And they knew that humanity rested in their hands.

Chux, the self-proclaimed leader of the small group, and Grent, one of the other tribesman, walked over to his top inventor’s hut to see what Tonk’s newest invention was. As soon as they entered Tonk’s shanty, Chux abruptly stopped in his tracks.

Sitting before the inventor was an object beyond his comprehension. He stepped closer to get a better look.

This is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen,” Chux said, ogling the curious object. “What does it do?”

“I don’t know yet,” replied Tonk, “but I’m sure it will have a great use someday. It might even change the world!”

Chux shook his head.

“I think you’re wasting your time. That thing is worthless.”

“Well, it’s still just a prototype.”

“And that’s all it will ever be,” Chux chided as he turned and walked out of the hut.

After Chux was gone, Grent went over to Tonk. “So what are you going to call it?” he asked.

“I’m thinking of calling it ‘the wheel’.”
