Clickity-clack, over the track The train chugged along,
Midnight Moon

Clickity-clack, over the track
The train chugged along,
While the fiddle player
And the banjo player
Played a happy song.
People clapped, people danced,
People sang the happy tune,
While the train moved ever onward,
Toward the midnight moon.

Around the bend, over the hill,
We rumbled across the land,
Passed a farmers’ field,
We passed a paper mill,
We even passed an orchard stand.
People were sleeping, children were
Weeping,
As the fiddle player and a harmonica
Player
Played a soulful tune,
And the train rolled ever onward,
Toward the midnight moon.

All was quiet, all was calm,
As the train rambled on,
The conductor man, light in hand,
Softly said, “We should be there
By the dawn.”
So I sit gazing out into the night,
Hoping, praying and yearning
For the morning light,
And as I sit there, I hum a lonely tune,
With whistle blowing
And steam pipes glowing,
We keep on a chuggin’,
Forever onward,
Toward that midnight moon.
