Well, hello there, my little friend,
Dressed up for a party, are we?
In your fancy little tuxedo,
I watch as you walk.
To where do you go,
as you waddle along your way.
Is somebody's wedding about to start?
A friend, a parent, or your mate?
Or perhaps shall you go for a swim,
Elegant and calming strides in the watery air.
Darting to the left, darting to the right,
Taking a bite out of the schools that pass by.
Though I must say, it is such a day,
To spend your time sliding along the ice.
To feel the soft snow along your feathers,
Tis' a very wonderful feeling of bliss.
And yet, all is not happy for you,
For the blights of the arctic nibble harshly.
Leopard seals and killer whales fill your seas,
waiting for your one wrong move.
I hear your soft and pained cry,
as you look to the sky,
Longing and longing
for the chance of flight.
And yet, not all can glide through water like you,
So stand tall and be proud,
Looking your best, go on your way,
You wonderful, well-dressed bird.
