my book, a work in progress

i was less than an arms length away from him when i looked up and caught his eyes staring down at me. the sky on its clearest day could never have compared to the blue luminescent color of his eyes. I felt them look past me and into my thoughts. or so it seemed. there was happiness in them but also great sadness and loss, two emotions battling for control in front of me with a hint of loneliness behind it all. the gravity of these emotions weighed heavily on him and caused my heart to ache. soon the emotions were hidden from me behind a mask of defense and inquisitiveness.
"see something you like?" He asked as he leaned in closer with a broad fake smile across his face.
"Only a pirate, too bold for his own good." i replied.
