Blitz poem based on an image prompt. Dark Dreamscapes contest entry (August 2014).

Dressed in black
Dressed in red
Red lips
Red cloak
Cloaked in darkness
Cloaked in shadow
Shadowy motives
Shadowy face
Facing uncertainty
Facing danger
Dangerous liaisons
Dangerous paths
Paths through the woods
Paths into the unknown
Unknown destinations
Unknown questions
Questions unasked
Questions in need of answers
Answers about who we are
Answers about why we are who we are
Are we ready
Are we prepared
Prepared to take the road less traveled
Prepared to venture into the dark
Dark thoughts
Dark dreams
Dreams of pleasure
Dreams of pain
Pain over past wrongs
Pain over present faults
Faults in ourselves
Faults in others
Other roads
Other chances
Chances to redress
Chances to repent
Repent for our choices
Repent for our sins
Sins of our fathers
Sins of our own
Own our mistakes
Own our decisions
Decisions to travel down long dark paths
Decisions we foolishly pursue without looking back
Back to brighter days
Back to days without regret
Regret for our own darkness
Regret for our own transgressions
Transgressions...
Darkness...

(50 lines)

Blitz Form: Begin with one short phrase, it can be a cliché. Begin the next line with another phrase that begins with the same first word as line 1. The first 48 lines should be short, but at least two words. The third and fourth lines are phrases that begin with the last word of the 2nd phrase, the 5th and 6th lines begin with the last word of the 4th line, and so on, continuing, with each subsequent pair beginning with the last word of the line above them, which establishes a pattern of repetition. Continue for 48 total lines with this pattern, And then the last two lines repeat the last word of line 48, then the last word of line 47.The title must be only three words, with some sort of preposition or conjunction joining the first word from the third line to the first word from the 47th line, in that order. There should be no punctuation. When reading a BLITZ, it is read very quickly, pausing only to breathe.
