This is a poem about star crossed lovers who have accidentally met again after many years. |
August Night I looked into the face of my dreamlike memories Feeling the familiar warmth of two decades past. The smile, the secret smile that only lovers share Eyes that danced with laughter and friendship Eyes which met mine and shared of our sensual journey together, And our tears of parting. We spoke of families, of births, and tragedy, Our losses and years gone by. Joyful laughter and chatter surrounded us In floating streams of swirling smoke. The clinking of glasses, the glow of sparkling wine and butterscotch Relaxing both of us to a mellow glow, Keenly aware of the growing ache to touch. We welcomed the distractions of surface dreamers, Of friends eager to laugh and share comradery Of funny stories and comical situations. Our silent thoughts were our private world and only ours alone, But knowing glances and understanding smiles Occasionally drifting our way only verified our transparency And our weakness for one another. If we could only touch. But we do not dare. by Jonnie Dollins |
