Jack burst out of his home and sprinted down the street. He continued across 7th Avenue and into the darkness. As he maneuvered among the trees and the brush, he lost his footing. He was able to keep himself upright, but he was forced to slow his pace slightly.
Finally, he leaned against a tree. He wiped the sweat from his brow and took three long, deep breaths. He must keep going. His pursuer would not stop. He took one final deep breath and was off again. Jack knew he couldn't rest, lest his past catch up with him.
