The Dare

Like a giant Cyclops
the computer screen stares at me,
its blinking cursor on the blank page
daring me to bespoil its pristine beauty.

Miko, my muse,
whispers "Take the challenge!"
What is it that holds me back?
Thoughts rush, like the tide,
sweeping across my mind,
leaving a flotsam of images.

One small treasure shines
on the beach.
Grabbing it, my fingers
begin to move and words
like fragile shells
begin to appear,
glistening on the page.

I write.
