Thoughts on a sad summer night
Crickets and Quiet and Frogs, oh my

It's dark and warm and I am sad.
Thoughts of you surround me.
Crickets and frogs sing their summer song
But quiet weighs on me profoundly.

I should be loving this July night.
I should be watching the stars.
It's much too hard to sit here alone
With my heart aching from all of its scars.

It would have been so much easier
If I could have gone with you.
But that wasn't the way that things worked out.
There was no choice for us two.

Can you hear the crickets and the frogs?
Are you looking at the stars with me?
Can you hear the trickling fountain?
See my tears wash over me?

The quiet sounds of summer
Used to be so sweet to hear.
But now they bring back memories
Of times that were so dear.
