A poem written in response to the prompt 'summer fruits'. I remember strawberry picking. |
SUMMER FRUITS Armed with deep plastic pails And a long summer day. Unhurried, free, content; No rewind or replay. We select our first row Hunker down on our knees. Bountiful summer fruit; Fresh, red, ripe strawberries. They all seem so luscious, A bright glistening sight. Quite a few must be tasted, Appreciative bites. The berries please taste buds. They are sun-kissed, tart, sweet. Both surprise, memory Co-mingle, so replete. Our conversation flows Languidly, unceasing. Words bob, twirl, skip along. Laughter splashing, teasing. We swat curious flies And rambling, bumbling bees. Watch scurrying wee ants Determined, bold, busy. Marvelous dragonflies With wings iridescent Hover, swoop, zig and zag As hunters resplendent. The chatter of squirrels And the trilling of birds Blend with insect humming; Constant, yet barely heard. Summer fruit's glorious When plucked 'neath the hot sun, With a beloved friend; Berry-full, sated, done. 36 Lines |
