A child sees a plane heading toward the moon and his imagination runs wild. |
I cannot take full credit for this children's story. My son and I basically had this conversation. When he was done telling me this story about what will happen if the rocket hits the moon, he asked me to write it down. "Mommy, look! That rocket is going to hit the moon!" Jack yelled, pointing to the sky. "That's a plane, dear," Jack's mom said. "And the moon is too high to be hit by a plane." "No, it's a rocket, and it's going to hit the moon!" Jack insisted. His mom asked, "What would happen if it did?" "The moon would fall to the earth and hit something." Jack hoped the rocket would fly into the clouds and get lost. Then maybe it wouldn't hit the moon. "What would it hit?" his mom asked. "The whole city!" he cried. The rocket flew straight through the clouds and kept heading for the moon. "What would happen to the city?" "It would be dark for a long time." Jack hoped the group of geese would make the rocket go around them and the moon. "The city would go dark? How terrible!" his mom said. Jack watched as the rocket flew over the geese and kept heading for the moon. "Don't worry," Jake said. "The sun will pick the moon up and put it back in the sky." "What about the people in the city?" his mom asked. Jack watched the rocket get closer and closer to the moon. "They would live on the moon." Jack held his breath as he watch the rocket. And then... It flew under the moon. Jack felt better. His mom was right. The moon really was too high for the rocket to hit it. |
