The Watcher

He sits in a desk
         and stares.
He stares
         through the people
         at the blue-green wall
         behind them.
What is he thinking about?
As I watch him stare
         something extra-ordinary happens
His eyebrows
         go up higher and higher
         until they are part of his hair.
His eyes
         become wider and wider
         until they are the pure blue
         of a newborn kittens.

For a total
         of 30 seconds          
         he stays that way
                   until the look disappears
         as quickly as it came.
It was as if
         He understood something
                   Unique
         something
                   Profound
For a moment in time
         but does he remember?
