Matthew 6 seems to sum up how Christians are to pray:
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
To be seen by others seems to be the main goal of today's worshippers claiming to follow the teachings of Christ. I guess it makes sense. If you are unsure of your faith, you need to prove it to others to show them you are truly faithful. Yet, to do so contradicts what Matthew teaches about prayer.
Please, if you can, enlighten me. Why do so few Christians adhere to Christ's instructions on how one should pray.
