I stepped out of the Tuesday morning drizzle on to the bus. As usual, I purchased my ticket and took a seat at the rear of the vehicle amongst the usual mix of commuters, young mothers and college students. The prospect of the impending day at the office did not thrill me, but was unfortunately necessary. I flipped idly and sleepily through my phone whilst half staring out of the window at the grey autumn day, dreaming of a reality which did not include me spending the day at work. As the bus turned a corner, breaks screeching, I was jolted forward and a blinding flash of light shot through the front window and along the aisle. As I steadied myself on a nearby hand rail I heard a woman shriek and a baby begin to cry. “What the…” I started, as the light subsided and a view of the road emerged – only it was not the road. It was a great expanse of pink and yellow bordered with blue trees and swarming with cats. What had happened? I looked at my phone. Without thinking I had clicked on the “Alternative Reality App” I had downloaded for fun last week……. 200 WORDS |
