Two poems I wrote recently in order to start healing from heartbreak. |
You're Sweet “You’re Sweet” Like a fruit Although perhaps not ripe enough Perhaps too bruised And you’re set down and passed by for another “You’re sweet” But who can live off of desserts? It’s the main course that they crave; Salty, spicy, seasoned… Perhaps you’re merely the treat to make it all go down easier “You’re sweet” …and so unhealthy to the system Rotting them with cavities, weighing them down You give them that rush Just before they crash “You’re Sweet”, The words becomes bitter; The compliment meant to raise you up Upon some pedestal Feels more like Cross, hanging upon it in weakness Two Betrayals Locked in a love jail I was liberated by betrayal Breathe the air, feel the sunshine I carelessly rejoiced in a bitter splendor I found it easy to forgive my foe Loved when I let go Despite all we’d been through You’d think I’d be left deeply wounded My tranquility was disturbed by bliss My happy solitude ruined by affection and a kiss I dared to believe to venture so high Only to fall below that peace into ruin How brief I had to grow fond of you Though you cleanly cleaved my heart in two And yet how long I wasted with the other one I feel no pain from her as though I never loved at all I have no one to blame but myself For I took the risk But where can I find honesty? Where can I find the one? How will I know if they care? |
