Ella's favorite tree has something for her.

Ella was rumbling threw her backpack, looking for her favorite purple jacket. When Amy called from outside her window "Can you come over?" she asked. "not today" Ella called back. Ella quickly did her chores and had time to go outside. The wind was blowing leaves everywhere. Her favorite birch tree stood in the middle of the yard. She held her hands up into the air leaves swirled about her and one yellow leaf landed in her hand. It was icy. When she touched the rake the handle instantly froze. "Did I do that?" Ella gasped. A huge breeze made a red leaf slap her in the face. It was warm. Her whole body heated up. She swung her arm out and shot a flame out of her hand. Running toward the house she slipped and landed in the dried up brown leave pile. She met Tipsy her cat at the door. Reaching down to cuddle him she felt his body become lifeless. "Tipsy, please be ok? Oh no." she sobbed. Carefully she placed the cat in a shoebox and slid him under her bed. Still sobbing she went to bed.

The cloudy morning made her sad. "Ella, Amy is here." Her mother called. Downstairs Ella told her friend what had happened. The girls stood by the birch tree trying to understand what was happening. Ella picked a red leaf and again shot a flame burning the pile of raked leaves. "Get Tipsy," Amy said. "I know exactly what to do. Try the green one."

Ella held her beloved cat has she reached for a green leaf it was cool and suddenly Tipsy began to breathe.
