A poem of a girl battling anorexia and how it takes over her life

Zero

140

You start to feel guilty.

The mirror tells you lies,

And distorts your reality.

It starts with "just candy,"

But this is only the beginning.

130

People start to notice.

They tell you that you look great,

But you can still lose more.

You start skipping breakfast,

But it will soon become extreme.

120

"What's your secret?" They'll shout

What do you tell them?

Do you say you have a voice in your head?

You start skipping dinner.

Who needs food when you can look so good?

110

People are starting to get worried.

"When's the last time you had a full meal?"

"They're just jealous" the voice tells you.

You exercise till you can't move.

Just a few more pounds.

100

You're losing more than just pounds.

Friends and family have stopped trying

All you want is to be pretty!

You begin to cut your wrist,

And the blade becomes your only friend

90

You're skin and bones.

No one is there.

You are alone.

You haven't eaten in days.

One bottle of pills can end this pain.

80

Your parents are crying around your hospital bed.

The friends you thought you lost are praying for you.

They want the old you back.

"They don't understand" the voice says.

You don't know who the old you is anymore.

0

You are nothing.

Zero; the lightest of all.

"You are perfect." The voice says.

"All you had to give up was your life."

Your life is

Zero.
