1. Private investigator “Chance” Vaughn ambushed and shot
2. After shooting the hired guns he crawls to car
3. Collapses to side onto prom pictures
4. Passenger door opens
5. Shot rings out
B. June 1982
1. Teenager awakes from dream
2. Can still feel pain and burning
3. Something’s not right
4. Feels another presence/mind/soul inside
C. June 5, 1982 Morning
1. He shakes of odd feeling
2. Puts on glasses, running outfit, sneakers
3. On return from run, sister talks with him
4. Stephanie notices something different
D. June 5, 1982 Afternoon
1. Oldest sister Ewa takes Micah to get tux, flowers
2. At lunch, he confesses something’s not right
3. She tells him explain and when he does, she calms his fears
4. Asked if he wrote down dream and feelings
5. Tells him she’ll contact someone

II. Middle
A. June 5, 1982 Evening
1. Micah and Antoinette
a. Pictures at her house
b. He meets friends
c. Travel to prom
2. Prom
a. Introduced to more friends
b. Introduced to her old boyfriend
c. Disagreement on dance floor
d. Inner person talks former boyfriend down

a. She tells him he’s made her happy
b. His Inner Person, fading, screams to him
c. “I love you,” Micah says
d. Antoinette cries, whispers she’s wanted this
e. She tells him the same

a. Antoinette is floating

5. Back at her home
B. June 6, 1982 Morning
1. Breakfast with her family
a. Mr. De Fiore wants to know Micah’s college plans
b. Antoinette can’t speak, still in shock
c. She readies for work
2. Drive to work
a. Antoinette holds his hand
b. She tells him she loves him
c. She walks to his side of car, kisses him
d. Supervisor witnesses
e. Jealousy and outrage because he can’t have her
C. June 6, 1982 Afternoon
1. Writing the short story
2. Van Rossum and painting come up too often
3. Finishes first draft and walks away
4. Ewa and Stephanie read it
D. Monday June 7, 1982 Afternoon
1. Journalism/creative arts teacher handed short story
2. She sees Van Rossum and painting
3. After school, they talk
4. He needs to research the name and legend mentioned
5. She calls about the man Van Rossum
6. Micah meets with professor
7. Told NOT to tamper with events
8. Tells professor it’s too late: Said “I love you”
9. Ewa is happy
E. Friday June 11, 1982 Evening
1. Van Rossum is upset
2. Some people know the family secret
3. High school teacher and one of her students
4. Talks with associate
5. Comes up with plan to find out how much they know

III. End
A. Graduation Present, July 1982
1. The story’s been completed and edited
2. Submitted to literary magazine
3. Awaiting word on publication
4. Micah keeps submission from Antoinette
B. August 1, 1982
1. Hired men talk with Antoinette
2. She knows nothing of Micah’s research
3. They don’t believe her
4. Attempt to take her from store
5. Supervisor and his cousin thwart kidnapping
C. Kidnapping
1. Supervisor and cousin bring her to his apartment
2. Scared, she screams, no one can hear her
3. She can’t contact her love
4. Thrown into bedroom
5. Door locked
6. Panicked, tries to go out window
7. Barred, no escape
8. She hears door knock
9. Hears door break
10. Hears shouting
11. Bedroom door opens, supervisor runs in
12. Micah follows
13. Micah detains the supervisor as the police arrive
14. Antoinette won’t let Micah go
D. August 10, 1982
1. Hired thugs take Micah
2. He wants to know how the teenager knew about the painting
3. Inner person, long thought gone, comes to the fore
4. Tells Van Rossum about the painting, the map it is
5. Man wants to know location of it
6. Micah and inner person refuse
7. A gun is drawn
8. Refused again
9. Thugs beat on the teen
10. Again, nothing
11. Angry, Van Rossum pulls the trigger
12. A shot rings out
13. Micah feels no pain
14. Sees that he’s in a dream world
15. Stands with older self
16. Older self smiles, tells him that it will be fine
17. Older self disappears, as does dream world
18. More shots are heard
19. The thugs drop
20. Van Rossum is shaking
21. Alexander Black smiles as the police rush in
E. November, 1982
1. Antoinette De Fiore has Calculus test
2. Across booth table at café are spread her book and notes
3. On her third cup of coffee
4. Her roommate walks in, joins her
5. Puts a magazine down
6. Tells Antoinette, page 33
7. Antoinette why that page
8. Roommate, “He told me,” points over shoulder
9. Antoinette can see no one special, opens to the page
10. Sees byline, “Micah Vaughn”
11. She looks up, over roommate’s shoulder again
12. He approaches
13. She jumps up
14. “Hi beautiful,” Micah says as she wraps her arms around him
