In the middle of Nowhere.
It was Isa Latid who awoke one dark day
on a plateau of granite both ebon and gray.
There was not much to see save the rock and the sand,
therefore Isa referred to it as Nowhere Land.

Awesome edges were seen where he could gander down
but the absence of anything made Latid frown.
In the middle of Nowhere alone, Isa thought,
as he sought anywhere that was not a blank spot.

Isa circled the plateau without any luck
and to his great disdain figured he was just stuck.
He took time on each side to survey distant views,
but he soon realized he was in Crusoe’s shoes.

Though he was quite adept in nature’s subtleties,
Isa could not determine the species of trees.
On this Nowhere untested in some middle Earth,
he was Isa Latid for whatever it’s worth.

Isa then became urged by the physical drain
to lie down for some rest in his Nowhere domain.
He found sand for a bed and some straw for his pate
while resisting the notion Nowhere was his fate.

Then he dreamed of some phantoms and the phantom zone,
but he still was not Superman in his alone.
Ah, to have such a power with long flowing cape
and from Nowhere be able to make an escape!

On his plateau of dreams Isa opened his eyes
and was very relieved to see starry-filled skies.
But it did not take long for him to have no doubt
there were star patterns he could no longer make out.

With the dawn came the light of Earth’s long-burning Sol,
yet he thought perhaps he was lost in a black hole.
Maybe Nowhere’s true middle succumbs to the scrunch
Latid mused, quite amused he could have such a hunch.

Wind would whip off the stone tops without any sound;
sun and sky made the day but no beauty was found.
And the trees unidentified all made a scene,
but to Isa Latid it declared Halloween.

In a desperate deed to keep his sanity,
Isa fashioned a pal from the stump of a tree.
Thinking back to his grandpa, he named his pal John:
and they both in the middle of Nowhere went on.
