Our "word children" may give us power, but it is ultimately we who birthed them!

Reviewing will always be just an opinion. It's real purpose, I think, lies in giving the author a bird's eye view of the reviewer's perspective. The only way to truly formulate an opinion is to read for oneself. Rarely, you find someone who reads your work and truly "gets" it, almost speaking you back to the time when you penned the piece in question. Anyone can just say,"Oh! I love it!", But why do they ? And do they for the same reason you "want" them to? When you put your work "out there", it's like bringing your child to their first day of public school. Will the Teachers approve? Will the other kids be nice? And will my "child" be received warmly and given good company. "Child" may not be the best word to describe some works. Some feel like they birthed us, like we are their children, and the work is our literary parent, allowing us to be born. Never fear the product or the process. Our "word children" may give us power or liberty , but always remember that it is we who penned them, we have control and we are the authors of our experiences. |
