Three poems that have different forms that celebrate summer on its first day.
First Day of Summer Trilogy

Summer
Sweat pouring down our faces
Umbrellas cannot stop the heat
Many people flock to the beaches
More lemonade is all I ask for
Enjoy this day of pleasure and
Remember, winter is six months away!

Solstice Day
Equatorial
trip of the sun to heat the
earth. Long days of light.

Days of Heat
Days
of heat,
with warm, dull
nights. The air is
filled with stifling thick
humidity. We look
to the skies for rain. Plants grow.
Animals seek the shade as the
noon heat reaches its height. The air stirs
as tropics begin the hurricane dance.
