They had been over for three months now, but it felt like just yesterday to Nathan. The pain was still strong, coming at him like a gush of wind in a hurricane. Nathan had cried everyday since she left, slamming the old red door to the house they had built together behind her. His eyes were puffy and red, swollen from the night before. Ever since Layla left him he had been alone in the same depressing house, never going anywhere, seeing anyone, not that he wanted to anyway. His loneliness tasted like pennies. He awoke in the middle of the night, forgetting to take his sleeping medicine. As he drank away his pain with the last bottle of whiskey left that he had stored under his bed, he wondered what the point was in his life anymore. Layla was gone and she wasn’t coming back.
Looking under his bed at all of the empty whiskey bottles, broken picture frames of the two lovebirds back in high school, and dried up tissues, he found an exit sign. He picked up the shiny silver gun as it were 200 pounds.
Nathan opened his mouth, placed the gun between his teeth, and thought to himself “Its over. I’m free.”
