A poem about the girl who raised the wolves.
Born in the desert, next to a cactus
Underneath the moon
Coyotes howled with newborn cries
The air cooled
She now a part of the world

A city glared at a little girl
Gazing at the sky's edge
She stared at the lights
Beckoning her toward urban chaos
And din

Womanhood came with spines
And a flower
Bloomed pink, a fragrant halo
Above her head

She hunts amidst the brush
and sand
Her birthplace still her home
Fresh air is all she breathes
An expanse is all she knows

Smog drifts from the horizon
Her eyes widen
She walks toward the rising moon
