A letter I wrote to myself one day. I think it speaks volumes, no?
Dear Self,

Parts of me wish I could say that I could be better to you. That I could have a prettier smile, a cuter nose and more elegant eyes, for a little boost of confidence in times like these when you need it most. I wish I could say that I had trendier clothes for you to try and wear. I wish that I could tell you that your family, and life, is perfect. That nothing bad ever happens to you or the people you love, and that everything is pink and peachy all hours of the day and night. I also wish I could tell you that you have no worries. No fears. No stress. And that everything happens without a single care.

Self, that is what I WISH I could tell you.

Self, here's how it really is. I know as well as you do that the world we both live in, is NOT fair or pleasant. Things happen to our loved ones and then where does that leave us? Wilted, like a flower that has been plucked away from it's roots. And that doesn't make us feel very beautiful, does it? But the fact is Self, if you look deeper inside yourself, I'm sure you'll find more answers than you think you have.

You see, even though you think differently, you are beautiful in your own way. Sure, you're not a super model or a movie star but you have your own perception of beauty and that's what really matters. I remember when you used to not care about what others said about the way you looked, what happened to that? You have your own reasons, and as far as everyone else is concerned, not much else matters. You don't need fancy clothes to prove your worth to the world, you have your unique, individual light that out shines materialistic ideas and thoughts. And though your family isn't perfect, they love you like no one else in the world could. Who else would put up you running through the house acting like a idiot just to make the dog happy? Not very many others, I don't think.

And yes, bad things will happen to the people that you love, but you know what? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I know it's VERY over-used but that's because it's so true! You have a wonderful support system going where you lean on one another to get through the tough times. And that in itself, is something to be thankful for.

Long story short, Self. Don't be afraid to be who you really are. Don't be afraid to show of that special light that you've been given. Because everyone has been given one.

The fun part is figuring out how to unleash it.

From,

Your Closest Friend
