a white man falls in love with an indian woman named ohio, her father forbids their love.
Let me tell you about a man who walks these hills alone
Doesn’t have a care at all not even a home
He was scouting the land one day and met an Indian maid her name was

Ohio, Ohio, She was picking berries when he saw her there
Ohio, Ohio, tall and slender with jet-black hair

She was startled at first when she saw him look her way
But soon a smile appeared that brightened up his day
Though they couldn’t speak a word in love they soon fell
A lone and restless cowboy and a lovely Indian maid her name was

Ohio, Ohio, Indian maiden won’t you be his bride
Ohio, Ohio, take him from this land or he’ll surely die

Her father was the Chief and soon heard of their love
Ashamed of hers daughters choice he was filled with rage
He assigned 20 Indian Braves to hunt this man down
He’d give his daughters hand to who ever scalped his crown

Ohio, Ohio, Run to your love as fast as you can
Ohio, Ohio, you can save him if no one can

And when she found her love she ran into his arms
But he couldn’t understand when she said they must leave
When the arrows started falling she pushed him to the ground
And soon she fell beside him with 3 arrows sticking out

Ohio, Ohio, she lost her life to save her love
Ohio, ohio, she will be remembered as the lonesome dove

Let me tell you about a man who walks these hills alone
Doesn’t have a care at all not even a home
He lost his will for living when the arrows struck her down
Sad and lonely cowboy destined to be alone he sings

Ohio, Ohio, I weep for you every day
Ohio, Ohio, Indian maiden take my pain away
