This is a query letter for my Nanowrimo 2012 Novel, Rain. |
Dear Agent: Drought is a reality in the United States and it can have long term devastating effects. For example, ranchers and farmers can lose their livelihood in the death of livestock and incinerated farming land. Firefighters are at risk every time they answer a call. My novel touches on these aspects and more. What if scientists found a way to end it and bring rain back to the land and people who so desperately need it? What if years down the road harmful side effects were discovered? Is it man’s right to adapt Mother Nature chemically? My novel, Rain, deals with just these questions. My protagonist, Ilsa, is just a child when her home is threatened by fire. Scientists work diligently to find a solution to the drought that has given birth to a wildfire that is consuming the affluent island town. The answer of manmade water comes too late to save most of the homes and years later the damaging effects of the rain are discovered. As an English major in college, I was on the student newspaper and published in the school literary magazine. I also wrote and directed one of the annual shows put on by my community. I have been writing for well over thirty years. Enclosed are the first two chapters of my novel, Rain. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jacqui King Cosper |
