love exists at any age, don't take it for granted
"Did you know that stars are balls of gas?" The little boy spoke with wisdom. The little girl lying next to him stared at the sky in wonder.
"That's incredible 'Ichi!" She replied in wonder.
"Ko, it's just science." Deichi remarked. Kotomi sighed. Stars and constellations littered the night sky. The two stayed silent for awhile.
"Happy seventh birthday 'Ichi." And things were silent again. Kotomi began to pick at the grass while Deichi just laid back with his hands behind his head. Kotomi was frightened by his lack words.
"Thanks."
"Deichi?" He was surprised at the use of his full name.
"Yes?"
"Lets make a promise." Kotomi let her voice stay strong.
"What do you mean?" Deichi asked, sitting up.
"I want to be like our Mommies and Daddies one day." Kotomi said in a quiet voice. Deichi didn't answer immediately.
"You mean be neighbors?" He was confused.
"No."
"Live together?"
"Ya."
"Kotomi, we're only five and seven..." Deichi turned to look at her.
"I know."
"Our parents are old."
"So?" Deichi turned away from Kotomi.
"That's a really long time from now..."
"I know." Kotomi sat up and turned away. Deichi took a moment to think, then he faced Kotomi again.
"I promise." He said, with all the sincerity in his voice. The silence took over again and the two sat back staring at the stars. Deichi grabbed Kotomi's hand in his and gently kissed her cheek just like he had seen his father and mother do several times before.
"We can start right now."
