Chapter 2

June 16th

I thought it would be best if I waited to write to you again until you were actually born. So I did. You were born today at one ine the morning. Now you are sleeping in Jack's arms. He's smiling down at you; he looks so happy and so peaceful. I'm glad that he stuck with me, that h still loves me. I'm pretty sure he's going to ask me to marry him soon. Wouldn't that be great Sam, oh by the way we decided to name you Sam once we found out you'd be a boy. Jack's grandfather's name was Sam, so I gues your named after him.

Sam stoppedreading his mother's delicate handwriting for a second. When Rachele, his private detective, calle he hadn't expected her to show up at the diner with boxes full of journals. Let alone his parent's journals. The weirdest thing was that there were two sets of journals. One from his dad and one from his mom. Usually things lke this just came from a mom because it was more on the personal side. But it was good to know that his father was just as sensitive as his mom.

Sam looked at Rachele and asked, "Where di you get these?"

She folded her hands andreplied, "I tracked down their estate sale. I got a list of items and where everything went. These were just left in a storage unit. It wasn't very hard to do."

"Can I keep them?"

"Of course."

Sam rubbed his hand over the cover of the red diary from his mother. He opened to the page that he left off on and continued to read.
