From kitty corners and a ferret's cage
and jumping down a flight a stairs.

I am from red and blue lights
flashing through at bed time.
Arguments and flying objects
that rarely make their mark.

I am from expired joy
that was left behind.
Artists and writers
who aren't appreciated for their work.

I am from labor and struggle
and long nights awake
wondering what will happen next.

The yelling and screaming
that others deem loud
is my lullaby.

I am from bike rides
and summer times
filled with semi-smiles and forced laughter.

I am from school buses
and small desks,
with books shoved inside.

From best friends and enemies
who take my worries away
even if just for a minute.

I am from older brothers
who bother and younger
sisters who annoy.

I am from ashes and dust
heart aches, no trust,
