I’m standing on a pathway,
gazing at the colors.
Trees contain their own exotic rainbow.
A woodpecker clicks away above my head,
a squirrel comes to stand beside me,
wind caresses me to show I’m not alone.
Then there is silence.
I look around,
I see the ground is frozen,
cold water unmoving,
birds have flown north,
wind bites at my skin.
Nothing is near.
I try to go back.
Aroma of flowers fill my nose.
Luscious green grass cushions my feet.
A family of birds sings me a lullaby
as I lean against a cherry blossom tree.
Giant mountains paint a portrait,
while butterflies flutter around me.
But an explosion shakes me awake.
A volcano blows hot debris.
Lava flows down killing everything near.
Dry earth, crunching under my feet.
Animals flee, butterflies die.
Flowers are drowned in rocks and dirt.
The sky is hidden by smoke and charcoal.
