Lamenting a loss
Under The Sledge and Maul

We are split like hickory under the sledge and maul
Splintered, disconnected, apart, never to return
Savage in nature, the cracking, the crying
Silently cast off like yesterdays clothes

The nakedness we have become is chilled
By its' prospects, its' future, or lack of the same
Exposed for the first time to the coldness of life
Cruelty and ambition have had their day with us

I lie weeping lonely, the torment in my soul heaves
Oh to have it all over again, to have it over again
Fear is the cloak I wear, it stops none of the cold
It is an old wet blanket that I carry close to me

Hope has left on its fleet feet of mercury silver
Leaving the gray stains of a life shattered
And a cold wind howling deep inside me
The madness of you under the sledge and maul
