A flash fiction tale of a proposal gone bad
Bloody water trickled down between the moss covered rocks.  A once picturesque creek rolling beside the abandoned water house on a spring morning with the sun peaking between the budding pine trees would be the envy of an impressionist painter's vision.  Today, however; the scene could only be described as life meets love meets death.
Corvitt leaned over the still shuddering body of his former fiancĂ© and stared at the arrow with disbelieving tear-stained eyes.  He pulled her lifeless form up to an immortal embrace.  Anger boiled within his soul as he looked over at the bloodied hunter lying face down in the shallow water.  Unable to comprehend the events of the last couple minutes, Corvitt began to sob uncontrollably.
Today was his day!  He had it all planned out; the location, the time of day, even the almost whimsical slip on the mossy rocks to put him on his knees in front of her.  The last thing he expected to see was an arrow jump through her heart and spray his face with her essence.  Shock, pain, and horror flooded his mind as Wendy fell limply to the ground in front of him.  He looked up and saw the young hunter come around the thick evergreen on the far side of the stream.
Rage overcame him, he yelled in anguish and hurled a rock he didn't remember picking up right at the face of the stranger.  With a small pop, the man's head snapped back and then he collapsed forward into the mountain brook before he could even open his mouth to say, “Oh my Gaa..!”  Corvitt looked down and watched his own spirit seep from his body into the reddish brown water sloshing over the cold stones.
