A war poem about a hero who promises to come home.
He hugged his family one last time,

The tears filling their crying eyes,

He told them all good bye,

But he promised to come home.

He stood at attention,

He was worked to exhaustion,

And was molded into perfection.

He promised to come home.

He was shipped out over seas

To an island with no trees.

He then heard the screams,

He promised they'd come home.

He ran through the Haze,

The shells put him in a daze,

He had no time to waste,

He promised to come home.

He ran to every yell,

Through the bullets and the shells,

He got back up when he fell,

He promised they'd see home.

After the whole ordeal,

He knew the joy they would feel,

To hear the welcome cheers,

He knew they'd make it home.

A hero's welcome this time,

Tears filled his family's eyes,

As the hearse drove on by,

He promised he'd come home.
