Briana sees a handsome man while working and develops a liking, and vice versa.
"Okay, Martha, I'm going to head out for the night," I told my boss, untying the straps of my apron. I worked as a waitress at Hometown Cafe. "Okay, you take care now, Briana."
"Will do, you too, Martha."
Just then, a man with chin-length blond hair and lush green eyes walked through the door and stood at the counter, waiting to be seated. He was lanky in build, with wirey muscles showing through the white v-neck sleeves of the shirt he was wearing. He caught my attention instantly.
"Actually, I think I have another hour in me," I told my boss. She raised an eyebrow at my sudden decision, but otherwise shrugged it off. I quickly put my apron back on and walked out of the kitchen doorway to the man, smile in place.
"Table for one?"
He nodded politely, offering me a small but breathtaking smile. I was mesmerized for a minute, then shook it off and led him to a seat at the counter.
"And what would you like to drink?"
"Oh, surprise me. I've nothing to lose," he said, grinning easily, and looked up at me for the first time, for when I'd greeted him he'd been fumbling with his wallet. The moment our eyes met, I froze. He seemed to freeze, too, the grin slipping slowly off his face. For a moment we just stared at each other, until I shook it off and said, "Okay, one coffee coming up. And I'll be your server for the evening."
So, for the rest of his time there, I served him and made small talk while he ate. The diner was practically empty, anyway, as it was 8 o'clock at night. When he stood up, I walked with him to the podium there and rang his bill up.
"Have a good one," I told him with a lazy smile, which he returned.
"You, too, Briana."
I started at my name, but remembered I was wearing a name tag, and besides that, I'd told him. It shouldn't surprise me.
After he left I hung around for about fifteen minutes, and decided it had been close enough to an hour.
"'Night!" I called towards the kitchen behind me to the kitchen as I walked out the door, to meet up with a surprise I didn't know I would encounter.
