Getting lost in a moment |
I'm lost. I've found my way to nowhere And now I'm looking back, And I see the echo of the trail I'd lain so carefully Just melting into heat waves from this sun. I see that yellow brick road Still melting into heat waves From our sun. And I've asked the moon for help, And he said, "Look." So I looked at the stars that used to shine in my eyes, And I looked at the ground that used to meet my feet halfway. I looked at my fingertips that used to play On that ivory playground you called a keyboard. I looked at the map of lines and veins permanently etched by time Into my palms, And I realized that I didn't know the back of my hands very well. I looked at the beautiful mirage we made out of candlesticks and words, And it told me, "You can't always trust what you see." I looked around, and I saw a symphony; A symphony of light beams and shadows dancing in time with the wind On each strand of your hair. I know I've said I'm done looking, But every time I close my eyes I can't help but look at the colorful blackness that makes up my eyelids. I try to find your face in those technicolor shapes, But all I see are the light beams and shadows in your hair, And I'm searching, searching for your face, But I've just found my way to nowhere. And now I'm lost. |
